This empty room could have been decorated in many ways, but our client had clear ideas of what she wanted us to accomplish. She particularly liked historic French country-style interiors, so we designed and fitted painted panelling in the room, which transformed its proportions and immediately made it more comfortable. An antique French fireplace and carpet were added, and hand-made French furniture completed the transformation.

Our client missed her old family home in France, so she showed us a picture of a panelled room with floral curtains that she particularly loved, and asked us if we could achieve a similar effect in her new house in England.

We began the transformation by changing the box-like shape of the room with bookcases at each corner, incorporated into the design of the panelling. An 18th century French fireplace and an antique carpet added to the impression of a home that had existed for generations. As a gesture to modern living, the mirror above the fireplace masks the television, which only becomes visible when it is switched on.
